Introducing...Loop De Loop!

Here at Animation Apprentice we're excited about Loop De Loop, a bi-monthly animation challenge that's a bit like The 11 Second Club, but with a loopy twist.

Loop De Loop seeks to create "a community of creative folks working together for the greater good of looping animation". Whatever that is.

So, how do students get involved with Loop De Loop? And what's it for anyway?

What is Loop De Loop?
Loop De Loop is a bi-monthly animation challenge. It was created a few years back by a bunch of Australian animators. Every two months there is a theme, and a challenge. At the end of each theme the top 100 posted loops are compiled and screened to a live audience at Loop in Melbourne, Australia and at other venues throughout the world. And, of course, the animation has to loop! D'Oh!

What's it for?
LoopdeLoop's goal is to "connect people working in independent animation".  Rather than encourage animators to make "short films which can quickly balloon into daunting, all encompassing projects", Loop De Loop is a "monthly showcase of animated loops". The idea is to create projects which are "more achievable and fun", and "much less intimidating than having to plan and execute a full animated narrative".

Moreover, "looping animations are a great challenge to create, because they force you to refine an idea into a tiny nugget and pack a lot of time and effort into a short sequence of images. When executed well, the resulting loop is an engaging sequence which flows seamlessly and stands up to repeated viewings."
